I've created this community for people who are interested in getting in shape and improving their overall health. I have a disability. In early 2002, I was in very poor health. I weighed 190 pounds. I'm only 5'1. So for my height I was considered obese. My blood pressure and cholesterol were so high that my doctor wanted to put me on medication to treat it. After some encouragement from family and friends, I decided to make an effort to get in better shape. Since then I've lost 75 pounds and am much healthier. Over that time I've learned a lot about health and fitness. I decided to create this community for disabled (and nondisabled) people to come and share their stories, ask questions about health and fitness, share recipes or whatever they want to share. However, I will not tolerate any rude or hurtful comments about anyone. I want this to be a safe place for people of all fitness levels and body types to come and speak freely. If you put anyone down or make disparaging comments you will be banned. So please be kind and respectful. I also wanted to say that I am not a doctor. I've learned quite a bit about health and nutrition and I would be glad to answer any questions you have. However, before starting any exercise or nutrition program you should always consult a doctor and a nutritionist.
